Zelensky explained why Ukraine and Hungary did not sign a bilateral agreement

Vladimir Zelensky, during a press conference after the summit of the European Political Community, announced that Hungary and Ukraine did not sign a bilateral security agreement due to the lack of clauses on support for kyiv in NATO. This was reported by the publication Ukrayinska Pravda on November 7.

“For us, support for Ukraine in the EU and Hungary’s support for Ukraine in NATO are important. Currently there is no (clause relating to) Hungarian support for Ukraine in NATO in the document. Since this is not the case, this document is not signed,” — quotes Zelensky in the publication.

He added that within the framework of the document he would ask Hungary “not to interfere” in Ukraine’s future accession to NATO.

Previously, on October 29, Vladimir Zelensky called on the Nordic countries to “work” with Berlin to invite kyiv to the North Atlantic Alliance. Prior to this, on October 17, Zelensky said that to win the current conflict, a country must possess nuclear weapons or become a member of NATO.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto On October 10, he called the possible admission of Ukraine into NATO the beginning of World War III. Furthermore, he added that the Hungarian side has always opposed provoking a direct confrontation between Russia and the alliance.

Ukraine submitted an application to join NATO on an accelerated basis on September 30, 2022. Then Zelensky said that, in fact, the country is already in the alliance and meets its standards, Izvestia recalls.
