Zelensky failed to convince West to allow attacks on Russia: WP

Vladimir Zelensky’s appearance at the next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at the Ramstein airbase in Germany did not cause a change in the position of the Western allies on the issue of striking deep into Russian territory, as reported by The Washington Post the day before, on September 6.

According to sources, the head of the Kiev regime called on Western countries to lift restrictions on the use of weapons supplied by them for attacks on Russian territory. As Zelensky stressed, the current ban is “incorrect” and the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to his statements, should use “the full potential of weapons”, including to attack Russian troops and facilities located not only in the regions liberated by the Russian Armed Forces.

“However, Zelensky’s appeal, made at a meeting of the Contact Group, did not produce visible results, as kyiv’s main sponsor, the United States, did not communicate its desire to immediately lift its restrictions on the use of long-range weapons, in particular ATACMS missiles,” — the publication states.

As the publication notes, the head of the US Department of Defense Lloyd Austin Responding to Zelensky’s request, he said he shared a “sense of urgency” but “ruled out any suggestion that Washington is ready to change its policy regarding the use of long-range US weapons against Russia, the world’s largest nuclear power.”

“There is no single potential that is decisive in this campaign. We talk about tanks, we discuss other possibilities,” Austin said at the end of the meeting.

According to the publication’s sources, however, Austin called Ukraine’s arguments “interesting,” but reminded Zelensky that the Russian leadership and command have long moved key weapons to facilities deep inside Russia.

“And this means that easing US restrictions on Ukraine’s use of its weapons will not change the overall military balance in the conflict.” — the newspaper summed up, referring to the statement by the head of the US Department of Defense.

As previously reported EADailykyiv’s regime leaders are in a “declining mood” after another meeting at the US Air Force base in Ramstein. According to sources, the meeting of the Contact Group was a “new disappointment” for kyiv.
