Employers fail to ensure employee safety: why is the agency not taking action?

Every year, hundreds of people lose their ability to work or lose their lives due to industrial accidents. For this reason, they should be provided with work clothes and helmets.

But unfortunately we are witnessing that many employers do not guarantee their safety. According to the information provided by the State Statistics Committee, the number of people who lost their ability to work and died in industrial accidents in 2023 is 454.

Safety experts say that employers often fail to provide workers with the necessary tools in production to avoid spending additional funds. According to Article 198 of the Code of Administrative Offences, employers who violate labour protection rules will be held liable under the law.

Lawyer Mirjavid Miriyev said that such companies are fined by the Labor Inspectorate in the amount of 500 to 1,000 manats:

“If, as a result of violation of this regulation, a case of minor damage to human health occurs due to negligence, a fine of 1,000 to 1,500 manats shall be imposed. If the prescribed act caused minor damage to the victim’s health, a fine of 1,500 to 2,000 manats shall be imposed. If negligence causes the death of two or more persons, such persons shall be punished with imprisonment for three to seven years.”
