The Duke reacts to the Munich shooting

Israeli President Isaac Herzog discussed the shooting incident near the Israeli consulate in Munich with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and thanked security forces for their swift action that led to the quick neutralization of the shooter.

The Duke highlighted the symbolic tragedy that on the day a ceremony was held in Munich to commemorate Israeli athletes killed 52 years ago by terrorists, a new terrorist attack once again attempted to claim innocent lives.

The president thanked the German security services for their “swift action” and added: “Together we will confront terror. Together we will win.”

Earlier, the Bavarian Interior Ministry announced that the suspect who opened fire near the Israeli consulate and Nazi history museum was shot dead during a shootout with police. Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that no staff at the consulate were injured as it was closed at the time of the incident. The museum also said its employees were safe.

At a press conference in Berlin, German Interior Minister Nancy Feser called the incident a “serious incident” and stressed that protecting Jewish and Israeli targets was a priority for German authorities. She said she was in contact with emergency services but declined to give further details.

Cursor also recalls that today marks the 52nd anniversary of the attack by Palestinian terrorists on the Israeli delegation at the 1972 Munich Olympics, during which 11 members of the Israeli team, a West German policeman and five attackers were killed.
