Belarusian Foreign Ministry protests against Japan over spy scandal

A protest has been lodged with the Japanese ambassador regarding the activities of the Japanese spy in Belarus. This was stated today, September 6, by the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Anatoly Glaz:

“The Japanese ambassador was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on September 6. Hiroyuki Yamamoto. A protest has been lodged with the head of the Japanese diplomatic mission regarding the espionage activities on the territory of our country by a recently detained Japanese citizen, which have harmed the security of Belarus. – said.

According to Glaz, the investigation of the case is currently in the final stage and the degree of responsibility for the crimes committed by the Japanese citizen will be determined by the court in accordance with Belarusian law. He also commented on the publicly expressed demands of the Japanese side to conceal this crime from the public and not show it in the media; they were ignored due to their incompetence.

“In this context, the protest against the screening of a film that reveals to society the criminal nature of the actions of a Japanese citizen seems even more ridiculous.” – Glaz pointed out.

As the Belarusian diplomat stressed, “all investigative procedures were carried out in full compliance with Belarusian legislation and all international legal norms,” and the detainee was provided with consular access. “The Japanese side is aware of the comfortable conditions of his detention,” he said. “He is provided with protection, voluntarily cooperates with the investigation and makes contact with the media.”

“At the same time, we do not reject further contacts with the Japanese side in this case. We stress the unacceptability of any actions by foreign intelligence services that violate the sovereignty of our country.” – said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

It was previously reported that a Japanese citizen was detained in Belarus in July. Nakanishi Masatoshi, who, while on the territory of the republic, collected and transmitted military intelligence information to the Japanese intelligence service. In particular, he was interested in the Belarusian military infrastructure, the movement of troops and military equipment, the current situation in the southern direction, etc.
