The President of the Community, Isabel Diaz Ayusoannounced the creation in Madrid of the first specialized unit in Spain aimed at studying how to improve “mental, social and emotional health» students.
It will be in the Higher Institute of Educational Innovation of Madrid (ISMIE) and it will be directed by José Antonio Luengo, dean of the Official College of Psychology of Madrid. It is an initiative that will have a team of experts who will carry out work on social and emotional material applied to coexistence, the study of the repercussions of the use and abuse of screens or the consumption of addictive substances.
The president brought it forward at the ceremony inauguration of the 2024/2025 school yearwhich took place this Monday at the Daoíz y Velarde Public School of Preschool and Primary Education (CEIP), in Alcobendas. The return to class begins with 64,435 teachers in Madrid’s public education system, 7,496 more teachers and professors (13.2%) than those of the 2019/20 academic year.
Ayuso stressed that this is a year where resources and attention will be focused on problems affecting the mental health of minors. Thus, the regional government will continue to strengthen other existing programs, such as Henka Culture Project in emotional well-being, which provides courses and workshops to the entire school community that already cover 136 centers, benefiting more than 75,000 students.
Similarly, approximately 550 courses will continue to be offered on the responsible use of technology, the dangers of alcohol and drug use and the importance of mental health in general.
Likewise, we will continue our collaboration with health workers through two new agreements with the Zurich Foundation and Mutua Madrileñawhich will be added to those in force with the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation and Nemesio Díaz Foundation.
These collaborations will allow the expansion of five new clinical teams with specialized mental health staff consisting of a psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist specializing in mental health and a graduate in nursing specializing in these subjects. These multidisciplinary devices will provide mental health guidance to more than 100 ordinary schools and institutes and to all Spice EducationL.
Patients at risk of suicide
