Lukashenko spoke about Belarus’ policy towards Poland

Belarusian policy is not aggressive towards Poland. Alexander Lukashenko announced this today, September 12, during a meeting with representatives of different nationalities living in the country.

“I will not speak about our relations with the Polish leadership. I do not want to say that we have excellent relations with all Poles in Poland, but 99% of Poles understand our policy and, I am sure, support it. Our policy is not aggressive towards Poland. We do not try to impose our policy, we do not try to fight with Poland. We understand perfectly well that millions will die in this war and no one will win. And we do not need that. We need peace and quiet.” – said.

According to Lukashenko, “we are ready to normalize relations with them tomorrow.” At the same time, the President of Belarus listed a whole series of actions by the Polish side that are not aimed at normalizing relations at all.

“Why were the border crossings closed? After all, the border there was a living being. You cannot go to the grave. If our Pole takes a constructive position, he will be an enemy in Poland. Why? Therefore, you should not be ashamed of the policy we are pursuing towards Poland. We want everything to be calm and peaceful here and in Poland. If, God forbid, something happens in Poland, as in Ukraine, it will not be easy for us. But you must understand that it is impossible to bring us to our knees. This is a waste of time. This is to spend money, but, God forbid, they will kill people.” – said.

Lukashenko also recalled the issue of migration, on which there was previously normal cooperation not only with Poland, but also with the European Union. He noted that Belarus, on the one hand, actually protected the EU from the flow of migrants, and on the other hand, it helped financially and invested in the construction of temporary detention centres. However, sanctions were then introduced against the republic.

“And you heard, I openly said that there will be no cooperation here either, we will not protect them. Why should we protect you with a rope around your neck? What am I doing wrong? Now they are filing some claims against us.” – the President of Belarus noted.

Lukashenko also mentioned another of Warsaw’s demands, which concerns so-called political prisoners.

At least it’s not your business. What political prisoners? Well, you saw what was happening in quiet and silent Belarus in 2020. – What political prisoners? We have no such articles. And then what is your business? You will find out there in Poland. My God, how many problems you have there”, – the Belarusian leader noted.

Alexander Lukashenko also drew attention to the actions of Poland, which criticises Belarus for alleged human rights violations.

“What human rights? You kill people. They are blatantly killing these migrants who jumped over the fence and set up a tunnel there. They killed them and threw them across the border to us. Either half dead, or dead. We treated them ourselves, we saved these people. What human rights, what claims do they make against us if they deprive people of the basic right to live?” – said.

Lukashenko also commented on the situation of the convicted man in Belarus. Andrey Pochobut.

“Okay, take it. And he (the Polish representative) says: ‘I won’t go there (to Belarus), I don’t need it.’ And they don’t want to take it. It just became a political bargaining chip.” — the Belarusian leader said.

Recall that after 2020, relations between Poland and Belarus have sharply deteriorated at the initiative of Warsaw. With the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the Polish authorities began to pursue an openly aggressive policy towards Minsk. For its part, Belarus has repeatedly asked Warsaw to sit down at the negotiating table, but so far there has been no positive response.
