Popular accusations of Begoña case asked Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to summon them to testify Manuel Muniz.
In a letter sent to the Court of Instruction number 41 of Madrid, Vox, Hazte Oír, Manos Cleans and Iustitia Europa define this former high-ranking government official as “the link between the Executive of Pedro Sánchez and the IE University”.
The main person charged in this legal case is Begoña Gomezwife of the President of the Government. Gómez was director, since 2018, of the IE Africa Center, an entity attached to the Instituto de Empresa (whose acronym is IE).
Muñiz, currently, since 2021, is Rector and Dean of the IE School of Global and Public Affairs, a position he had also held previously, between 2017 and 2020. And between January of last year and July 2021, the director was Secretary of State for Global Spainassociated position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The dates are important,” the letter states. “And even more so because it was during the years that Muñiz held the position of dean in its first stage that Begoña Gómez entered the management of the IE Africa Center,” it adds. Popular accusations indicate that the entity and the position to lead it were “newly created.”
“It cannot be ignored that Muñiz did not occupy a position of minor importance, but that his position had important functions within the Instituto de Empresa,” the letter states.
“The appointment of Begoña Gómez to this position (…) raises questions about the transparency and objectivity of the selection process. Despite the relevance of the position within the IE Africa Center, there is no public record that Begoña
“Gómez has had a recognized professional career in the field of education and development in Africa, which could have been decisive for his election in a process based exclusively on merit,” he adds.
The document also reminds the judge of another procedure requested by the popular accusations, which has not yet received a response from Peinado. At the end of August, as reported by EL ESPAÑOL, they asked the court to order an investigation into all of Gómez’s bank accounts or those in the name of any of his companies.
