Hostage Talks: Austin Makes Important Statement

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, during a conversation with his counterpart Yoav Galant, stressed the need to give Israel time to successfully complete negotiations on the return of hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He also spoke of a possible war with Lebanon.

“The escalation will have devastating consequences for the people of Israel, Lebanon and the entire region,” Austin said.

The talks between the parties took place after Yemen’s Houthis launched a ballistic missile towards Israel. The Pentagon chief reaffirmed the “unwavering commitment of the United States to Israel’s security and its right to self-defense.”

As previously reported, according to Qatari publication Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, mediators from Qatar and Egypt, with the support of the United States, are increasing pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resume negotiations on the hostage issue and find ways to end the war.

Previously, Kursor wrote that according to media reports, Hamas terrorists have demonstrated their willingness to temporarily allow the presence of Israeli troops in the Philadelphia Corridor and along the Netzarim Corridor as part of a possible hostage deal.

At the same time, the organization demands a strict timetable for a complete cessation of hostilities and the subsequent withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip once the agreement is finalized.

In addition, Cursor has already reported that in London, at a joint press conference with British Minister David Lammy, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the desire of the United States and Great Britain to end the war in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
