A Lebanese government spokesman told Al-Jamahoriya that active negotiations had been held with international parties in recent hours to “contain the Israeli aggression.” According to him, the same parties expressed serious concern about the growing tension in the region and Israel’s alleged desire to expand military operations.
The diplomatic source noted that the situation looks threatening and Israel’s actions create a dangerous situation that could lead to a full-scale conflict. International observers have also expressed concern that the current situation opens the way to an even greater confrontation.
A source in Hezbollah leadership said:
“This massacre broke all the rules, destroyed all the ceilings and removed all the boundaries that were forbidden and became acceptable. If the enemy boasted the name of Operation Below the Belt, Hezbollah will attack below and above the belt at the same time.”
Arab media also reported that Hezbollah is continuing a thorough security investigation into the paging devices to uncover all the details of the hack, as well as to determine who was involved in the operation, including packaging, shipping and delivering the devices to Lebanon.
Cursor previously reported that according to Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, Hezbollah’s response to successive Israeli attacks is “inevitable.”
Bu Habib warns that the deadly incident could be a warning of a wider war in the West Asian region. He also stressed the gravity of the incident “as it came after Israeli threats to widen the focus of the war with Lebanon, which would plunge the region into an even greater cycle of violence and signal a bigger war.”
