Students of the IES Plaza de la Cruz in Pamplonathey won the 3rd edition of RedeSTEAMhe Redeia national competition to promote the scientific and technological vocations among girls. Her initiative “Environmental Awareness” was distinguished among the works presented by a total of 164 girls from 3rd and 4th years of ESO and/or equivalent FP from 26 Spanish provinces, in fifteen autonomous communities.

To this end, they proposed a weather station capable of measuring CO2; a virtual game that shows how respiratory gases can harm health and an escape room based on physicochemical parameters studied in class such as combustion.
He price that students will receive in October in Madrid involves the participation of winners in immersive workshops to encourage STEAM curiosityimprove critical thinking and develop technological and programming skills. For their part, educational centers will receive equipment and materials for STEAM-themed classrooms worth 3,000 euros.

In this edition 45 registered educational centersA total of 40 projects participated in the competition, which were evaluated by an independent jury composed of women with scientific or technological training and profession. Among them, the four best in each category qualified for the second round.
Finally, The jury chose two winning projects in each theme after having valued aspects such as innovation and creativity; the project’s capacity for systematization; its adaptation or contextualization of the identified problem and the target audience to which the solution is addressed; application of the curricular content of the STEAM disciplines in the proposed solution; its impact or expected results and demonstrable achievements with evidence; as well as the communication skills of the members and the actions carried out to disseminate the project.
He competition It continues to grow year after year and has already reached a participation of 413 students from 80 educational centers spread throughout Spain in its three editions.
Attracting female talent to STEAM disciplines
He RedeSTEAM Objective is to awaken interest in science and technology among students in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary education or vocational training in order to promote the study of these disciplines to combat the gender gap. RedeSTEAM was born within the framework of the ‘STEAM Alliance for Female Talents’.
