Launch of ICBMs in Ukraine: experts estimate the number of missiles of this type in the Russian Federation

By early 2024, Russia has more than 500 land-based and sea-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

This data was published by Defense Express analysts based on information from authoritative sources, including The Military Balance 2024, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and SIPRI Yearbook 2024.

Analysts point out that the figures given are the current ones from the beginning of the year and do not take into account the possible presence of new missiles, such as the RS-26 Rubezh. According to its calculations, Russia has a total of 521 intercontinental ballistic missiles. The formation of such an arsenal required decades of work by the Russian military-industrial complex.

The ground component includes 34 RS-20 Voevoda missiles, 60 RS-12M Topol-M missiles, 18 RS-12M1 Topol-M missiles, 180 silo missiles and 24 RS-24 Yars mobile missiles, as well as an unknown number of new missiles RS. -28 Sarmat missiles and about eight Avangard hypersonic systems.

The naval component of the Russian arsenal includes 192 ballistic missiles deployed on 12 nuclear submarines.

Experts emphasize that such a number of intercontinental ballistic missiles is the result of many years of investment in the development of the defense sector.
