Daniel Sancho can ask the government for aid of up to 120 euros per month during his stay in prison

This Thursday, Daniel Sancho was sentenced to life imprisonment for the premeditated murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta. In addition, he was found guilty of the two other crimes he was accused of; concealment of the body and documents of others.

During his stay in prison, Sancho could benefit from a financial aid provided by the Spanish governmentThis grant is included in the general state budgets and is granted to all Spanish citizens imprisoned abroad, whether they are in preventive detention or serving a definitive sentence.

The aim of this aid is ensure that Spanish prisoners abroad can access food and basic necessitiesespecially when the conditions in the penitentiary centres are not comparable to those in Spanish prisons. The funds are intended to cover needs such as medicines, hygiene items and shelter, in order to compensate for the deficiencies in the foreign prison environment.

Sancho can request this help from the Spanish consulate, with a limit monthly 120 euros and an annual maximum of 1,440 euros.
