Spanish farmers demanded a reduction in imports of cheap grain from Ukraine

Representatives of Spanish grain producers demonstrated in front of the European Commission office in Madrid “against excessive grain imports from Ukraine.”

This was reported by the press service of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers, an organisation that brings together farmers and ranchers in Spain.

They said the protesters demanded that EU leaders take anti-dumping measures against Ukrainian grain crops. According to the Union, more than half of Ukrainian grain entering the European Union now arrives in Spain at dumping prices.

“Farmers will not sit idly by until protective measures are put in place and imported grains meet the same conditions imposed on us. We will continue our protests if our demands are ignored.” – said the coordinator of the organization. Luis Cortes.

Farmers are planning another protest on September 25 at the port of Santander to demand a solution to the growing increase in grain imports from Ukraine.

The United Union noted that Ukraine’s grain imports have increased significantly, amounting to almost 8.4 million tonnes in 2023 and almost 6.5 million tonnes in the first half of 2024.

Previously EADaily Bulgaria intends to appeal to the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council with a request to ban the import of eggs from Ukraine.
