Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyid Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, a consensus was expressed that cultural and religious partnerships between Azerbaijan and Iran are one of the main factors for the development of relations between our countries and the importance of regular contacts between relevant institutions and officials of the two countries in terms of the continuity of our bilateral relations was stressed.
The existence of strong political will on both sides is the basis for the development of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations, Azerbaijan’s full commitment to cooperation based on good neighborliness, equality, mutual respect and benefit was noted, and the importance of our country’s efforts to continue and further develop this cooperation was emphasized.
The importance of the activities of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission for cooperation in economic, trade and humanitarian spheres was highlighted within the framework of the work to enhance cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in various directions, including in the spheres of economy, trade, transport and communications, and in identifying projects of mutual interest.
It was noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Azerbaijan, created additional opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran. The other side was informed in detail about the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
It was stressed that the most serious obstacle to the conclusion of the final peace agreement is the continuation of territorial claims against Azerbaijan in a number of legal and political documents of this country, especially in the Armenian Constitution. In the context of the current revanchist tendencies in Armenia, attention was drawn to the fact that the rapid militarization of Armenia and the increased military support to Armenia by a number of states are undermining our efforts to establish security and stability in the region. During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
