He may reconsider his vote on the spending cap if he makes “conservative” changes to attract the Junts

Podemos Secretary General Ione Belarra warned the government that it would reconsider its support for the spending ceiling if negotiations with Junts included “conservative concessions” on the path to budgetary stability.

This was proclaimed in the halls of Congress, questioned about the existence of contacts with his party on the deficit targets, after the Executive postponed the vote initially scheduled for this Thursday to negotiate the support of Junts and after ERC demanded contacts with the tax authorities.

Belarra stressed that the four Podemos deputies of the Mixed Group note that, so far in their mandate, the Government is planning measures that the PP and the right could “perfectly” implement.

“If the deficit trajectory includes conservative concessions, we can reconsider our vote (which was favourable in the first attempt to cap spending), as is obvious,” he assured.

Use votes to turn “left”

Furthermore, he made it clear that since their votes are “essential,” they will “force” the government to “turn to the left,” since that is their mission in Congress.

Likewise, he said that yesterday it was seen that Podemos, with its “humble” presence in the chamber, managed to gather a majority for the admission to the process of reform of the Law “only yes means yes”, so that “reductions cannot be made”. be applied to sex offenders when there is economic reparation but no global reparation”.

“They already know us and of course we will use our votes are essential so that there is the maximum possible left turn” he insisted.

Meanwhile, Purple Party sources stressed that they would scrutinise any changes to the deficit targets articulated by the government.

And he criticized the fact that the government seems to think only that it is necessary to attract the votes of the Junts to have majorities taking for granted the support of a progressive group, a mistake in insisting that the support of Podemos is not guaranteed and this has been demonstrated, as was the case in the first attempt to reform unemployment benefits.

Against housing policy

Furthermore, the Podemos leader criticized the Executive for its attitude towards housing, given that makes decisions that “perfectly” could be made by the PP if I were in Moncloa.

He particularly reprimanded the Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez, for making statements calling for solidarity among owners in order to lower the price of rent, when it is necessary to “use” the Official State Gazette (BOE) to, for example, prohibit all purchases and sales of housing whose objective is speculation.

I believe the government is about to ask the Virgen del Rocío to lower rental prices.“, as the PP did, and I believe that this is unacceptable in a government that calls itself progressive,” he concluded.
