Four ETA members admit that in 2000 they attempted to assassinate two journalists whose son was 18 months old.

ETA members Patxi Xabier Macazaga, Jon Zubiaurre, Imanol Miner and Asier García acknowledged their participation in the attempted assassination of two journalists in the year 2000.

The couple formed by Aurora Intxausti (editor of The country) and Juan Palomo (Antena 3), testified this Monday before the National Court.

During the trial for these events, which was held this Monday at the National Court, both recalled the fear they felt after this failed attack, committed by a pot bomb placed on the porch of his house.

Especially since that year, his son barely He was 18 months old. So much so that the couple decided to settle in Madrid. Intxausti even had to start taking medication and later suffered from depression.

The explosive device, however, did not detonate. Palomo reported that as he left his house that November morning, he heard a noise similar to a firecracker.

“It was eight or nine o’clock. I left early and then my wife left with our son, then a year and a half old, to take him to daycare and go to work. I opened the door and which sounded like a firecracker and I saw it on the floor, on the doormat, very close to the door. there was a big, huge pot“, recalled the journalist.

After that, Palomo recommended his wife to move away from the door of the house and take the child to safety. She housed the minor in a room and began distracting him with toys.

One of Ertzaintza’s agents who went to the house, alerted by the journalist, said that the explosion, if it had occurred, would have destroyed the entire apartment. This was expressed during his testimony as a witness at the trial on Monday.

“It marked our entire life,” Palomo assured the National Court. After the attack, authorities offered the couple escorts. “Four [personas] throwing a child around… It was not a healthy life for any baby,” Intxausti illustrated, regarding the two bodyguards they were given.

It is for this reason that the couple finally leaves the Basque Country and settles in Madrid. The woman had to start taking medication. Before, he regularly suffered from fainting spells.

This Monday, after the four defendants ruled out having their turn to have the last word, the trial was held to determine the sentence. The prosecution requires 74 years and four months in prison for each of the accused, for three crimes of attempted terrorist assassination and one of havoc.
