Iran will respond to Israel’s recent attack on military targets ahead of the US presidential election on November 5, CNN reports, citing a high-level source close to Iranian authorities.
“The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the aggression of the Zionist regime will be definitive and painful” – said the channel’s interlocutor, without giving the exact date.
An unnamed Israeli official, quoted by CNN, told Ynet: “If they respond, they will get double.”
The United States called on Iran to refrain from attacking. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declared: “Iran does not need to respond to Israel’s response. “If you choose to respond, the United States will stand with Israel and help defend the country.”
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller made a similar statement.
On the night of October 26, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out airstrikes against military targets in the three Iranian provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam. Iranian authorities said the attack, which killed four soldiers, caused “limited damage” to the country and did not harm Iran’s oil industry.
The Israeli military identified the targets as surface-to-air missile systems, air defense systems and missile production sites that were launched into Israeli territory during the past year. The attack was a response to Iran’s massive missile attack on Israel on October 1, RBC recalls.
