This Saturday, September 28, the International Day of Scientific Culturedate on which the first broadcast of the television series “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan is commemorated. It is for this reason that the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia organized a free solar observation and guided with telescopes in which the public will have the opportunity to enjoy spectacular live images of our star.
The observation of the Sun and its phenomena, such as sunspots in the photosphere and prominences in the chromosphere, characterized by their intense red color, will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Paseo de Cipreses, next to the west access gate of the Science Museum.
The activity will take place with telescopes specialized, some equipped with filters for visible light which allow us to see sunspots and others of the H-alpha type to contemplate solar flares or prominences. The image of the Sun will also be projected on a white screen.
Additionally, there will be an exhibition table where the public can learn more about nature of light and learn about its behavior using instruments such as a glass prism, spectroscope, Newton’s disk, photocells, tellurium, and scale models of the solar system, among other elements.
Staff of the Nébula company and the Valencian Astronomical Association (AVA) will guide the public through the activity and share their knowledge about the temperature, composition and structure of the Sun.
