Leticia Ruiz leaves the management of the Gallery of Royal Collections

The director of the Royal Collections Gallery, Leticia Ruiz, leaves the management of the art gallery since had a “pending task” with the National Prado Museum to complete the Greco catalog, as Ruiz herself confirmed in statements sent to Europa Press.

Precisely, the director specified that it is a work to which she “devoted many years of study” and which she abandoned at a “very advanced” stage after her arrival at the Gallery.

“A catalog with acquired economic and temporal duties and which not only speaks of my commitment of more than twenty years with the painter, it is also about the memory and the work of José Álvarez Lopera, the great specialist in painter and whose work I am determined to finish after his death,” he added.

Ruiz arrived at this position in 2020 and, although at the moment it is not known when his leadership will end, National Heritage assured Europa Press that it is finalizing the bases of the public call that will give a new direction to the Museum .

“My arrival almost four years ago at National Heritage was linked to promoting the opening of the Royal Collections Gallery, a museum project of enormous ambition and interest for the institution and for the country. It was a great challenge and the result was very satisfying,” explained Ruiz.

Thus, the historian leaves the institution after “exciting and intense years” in a “solid project” and stressed that the Gallery is “a reference” among national and international museums.

Leticia Ruiz previously maintained a close link with national heritage, since she was part of the conservation area of ​​the institution between 1990 and 1998, carrying out, among other things, the inventory and cataloging of the historical and artistic heritage of the Royal Palace. from Madrid.

He also carried out and published studies on the royal collections, notably on the Descalzas Reales monastery in Madrid and on the institution’s old photographic collection.

In addition, Ruiz led, between 1995 and 1998, the cataloging of the collection of historical photographs of the national heritage, a work which culminated in the exhibition Photography in the Royal Collections, organized at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

In 1999, she joined the Faculty of Museum Curators and began working as a restorer at the Prado Museum, where she heads the Department of Spanish Renaissance Painting and the Marcos Zone, and is in charge of the collection of works of the Prado Museum. Renaissance and first third of the 17th century. With the collaboration of National Heritage, he also published The Majesty of Spain (2001).
