The decision, motivated by personal and health reasons, comes after Martínez himself publicly announced in March 2024 that he was suffering from a serious illness, as was reported at the time.

Following the resignation of Koldo Martínez, he will be replaced by Javier Leoz, a veteran of municipal politics. Leoz, 59 years old and originally from Pamplona, has a degree in law and has been an advisor in several legislatures (2011-2015, 2015-2019 and 2019-2023).
