The pact that the PSOE has signed with the ERC for Catalonia is for a “single financing” that not only does not attack the equality between territories that is “guaranteed”, but also that any autonomous community can aspire to the same thing provided that it does the same. . like the Catalan Generalitat: increase its powers to deepen its autonomy. This is the thesis defended this Saturday by the first vice-president of the government, Minister of Finance and deputy secretary general of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, who has traced the path started in the “federalization line” defended by the PSOE, and which is summarized in a “new look” at regional financing that consists of “accompanying resources with powers”.
Montero spoke at the meeting of the Andalusian socialist interparliamentary at the beginning of the political year, at a time of tension within the PSOE as shown by the fact that in Aragon he rejected that fiscal agreement with ERC that, in his opinion, “nobody has read” and that opens the door to unique financing such as that claimed for example by the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, “and nobody tears their clothes”. That is why he defended that the path that is now open consists of “making compatible what is common with what is particular” to each territory, what “has always existed”.
Not only that, but the pact “speaks of the vocation to autonomy” of Catalonia, something that is reflected in its Statute of Autonomy as in that of other communities, that of Andalusia without going further. “Moreno Bonilla demonizes the issues that are in the Andalusian Statute”, another thing is that the PP “does not believe in self-government” and is not willing to assume more powers.
“Defending equality in all territories is compatible with the aspiration for greater autonomy, or do we have fictitious autonomy statutes?” he asked rhetorically. For this reason, he “encouraged” his fellow activists to “read the agreement with the ERC and the economic parts of the Andalusian Statute, because in this way they will verify that “they are identical.” “What we are going to do is further deepen government autonomy,” he reiterated.
