Alcalá de Henaresthe only world heritage city in the Community of Madrid, opens the doors of the Cervantino Market this Tuesday afternoon until Sunday October 13. It has become an essential event in the calendar of Alcalá and a reference in the Community of Madrid.
This celebration is organized on the occasion of the baptism day of the universal writer of that name. From now on, this market will have a deployment of approximately 400 positions, more than 40 companies, more than 300 reenactors coming from all over Spain with numerous characters, almost 300 performances of music, theater and leisure for children, and moving more than 1,300 people, in addition to the participation of municipal staff from different municipalities. For her part, the mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet He explained during the market presentation that “commemorative activities” have been organized around this symbolic date in the city for almost “a century and a half”.

Market itineraries and activities
As for the route that the Cervantino market will have, there are three: the first on the Plaza de Cervantes (sidewalk of the Hacienda) and the Plaza de San Diego, the second on the Plaza de Cervantes (sidewalk of the Corral de Comedias ) and Calle Mayor and the third on San Juan Street, Palacio Square, Huerta del Obispo and Sandoval y Rojas Street.
However, the schedule will remain the same during all the days that the event lasts, starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 11:00 p.m.. All activities in detail can be viewed on the Town Hall website. The extensive program includes parades, puppets for the little ones, exhibitions of crafts such as sewing or animals such as falconry, period music and recreation.
But above all, we must highlight the spectacle of medieval jousting which will offer spectators an authentic journey through time full of action. The knights mounted on their horses will remember the adventures of the mythical character from Cervantes’ books: Don Quixote.
