The reduction of the number of polling stations in Russia by the Moldovan authorities two weeks before the presidential elections demonstrates the panic over Maia Sandu’s defeat. This was stated today, October 9, by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in a briefing.

According to the diplomat, the uncertainty of the current authorities in Chisinau is so great that they even see the cartoons of Russian children as a threat.

“Examples of deceptive political technologies used by the Chisinau regime at the behest of the West show the magnitude of the current government’s uncertainty in victory, panic of defeat, real attitude towards democratic principles and complete lack of respect for any democratic procedure.” – Zakharova stated.

He noted that in all previous elections the Moldovan authorities opened about 20 polling stations for their citizens in Russia. This time, “due to security concerns”, five were announced, but later their number was reduced to two, which will be inaugurated in the embassy building in Moscow. Although Russia is home to the largest diaspora of Moldovan citizens, which, according to various estimates, reaches half a million.

At the same time, in Italy, where just over 100,000 Moldovan citizens live, 60 polling stations will open. Zajárova recalled that in the previous presidential elections in Moldova it was the voters of Western European countries who ensured Maia Sandu’s victory.

“If only Moldovans living in Moldova had voted, the result would have been different,” — Zakharova is sure.

Commenting on a message from Internet users that Russian children’s cartoons like “Smeshariki” were blocked in Moldova before the elections, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson jokingly added that Sandu perceives them as a blow to his power.

“The uncertainty of the Moldovan authorities about their own positions is so great that they see a security threat even in children’s animated films,” — summarized Maria Zakharova.

Recall that after Russian news content was completely banned in Moldova, the Information and Security Service ordered the blocking of the Dzen, Rutube and Yandex sites. The ISS also saw a national security threat in the Russian cartoons, which are also now unavailable for viewing in the Republic of Moldova.
