One more year, this October 12the capital celebrates Hispanic Heritage Day, Pilar Day and Armed Forces Day in style. A national holiday of Spain. With the big detail that this year it falls on a Saturday.
This date commemorates the discovery of America in 1492 which, as the Ministry of Defense indicates, established “a period of linguistic and cultural projection in America”. During the day, festive in all autonomous communities, the military parade, the tribute to the national flag and other traditional events of this celebration will take place.
When does it begin ?
The military parade will begin at 11 a.m.once the authorities move to the royal tribune, which, like last year, will be located in Madrid’s Plaza Cánovas del Castillo (Fountain of Neptune).

What route will he take?
The start of the parade will take place at main entrance to the Botanical Gardenwith the incorporation of the Battalion of Honor of the Royal Guard in front of the Royal Tribune in Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, where the Chief of Defense Staff, the Minister of Defense and the President of the Government will be present.
Parade route
At 11 a.m., the Kings will receive military honors. Like last year, there will be Felipe VI, Princess Leonor, who will wear a gala uniform, and Queen Letizia. The King will review the Battalion of Honors and greet the authorities present. Next, a paratrooper carrying the Spanish flag will descend to the grandstand, after which the flag will be raised and a tribute will take place to those who gave their lives for Spain, accompanied by the Eagle Patrol flyover.
The air and land parade will pass through the Paseo del Prado and Recoletos to Plaza de Colón. Inside flypast 56 planes and 29 helicopters will participate and 117 motorized vehicles, 49 motorcycles and 210 horses. And two vehicles from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) joined the motorized parade.

Circulatory disorders
As detailed by Madrid City Hall, they will try to keep the pedestrian crossings on the route open until 8 a.m. on October 12, with the exception of the pedestrian crossings located to the north and south of the Plaza de Cibeles , which will be open until 10:45 a.m. so that the public can cross the road.
Repercussions on traffic, a few days before the parade:
From October 6 at 8 a.m. to October 14, 2024 at 8 p.m., due to the assembly of stands and structures, traffic closures are planned in the bus lane, as well as in the traffic lanes near the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo.
From October 9 at 10:30 p.m. to October 10, 2024 at 12:30 a.m., due to horizontal signaling works, traffic cuts are planned in the central trunk of the Paseo del Prado between Plaza de la Lealtad and Calle Felipe IV (lanes towards the Plaza of Cibeles).

Traffic under the tunnel from Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona to Ronda de Atocha and vice versa.
