Aykhan Hajizadeh: “It is our right to bring terrorists to justice, but also our international obligation”

“We firmly reject the two upcoming resolutions against Azerbaijan adopted by the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10.”

Oku.Az This was said by Aykhan Hajizadeh, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, commenting on the groundless resolutions of the Dutch Parliament and the biased opinions of Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp.

He noted that the speech of the Dutch Foreign Minister, Caspar Veldkamp, supporting these biased resolutions and calling for the release of the representatives of the former separatist regime and of the terrorists arrested by Azerbaijan as “prisoners of war” are unacceptable:

“It is regrettable that such documents and opinions completely ignore the military occupation committed in relation to our country and the ethnic cleansing of the population of Azerbaijan, as well as the still ongoing territorial claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

During Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan and the occupation of our lands, the Dutch side, which ignored war crimes such as destruction, insult and appropriation of our cultural and religious heritage, as well as illegal resource extraction cultural of our country, contrary to the Hague Convention of 1954, now referring to the false propaganda of the Armenians, affirms that our country is Armenian. “He has no moral right to claim that he is attacking their monuments.”

“At the same time, the distortion of the goals and objectives of the local anti-terrorist measures carried out by Azerbaijan in September last year, contained in the resolutions and expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is a clear example of double standards against our country. We would like to remind you once again that it aims to end its existence.

The persons referred to as “prisoners of war” in the Netherlands’ claims are persons accused of committing separatism, deliberate murder, torture, terrorism and other crimes against humanity on the territory of Azerbaijan. Under international law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions, the International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries, as well as local legislation, Azerbaijan has both the right and the international obligation to carry out these people before justice. Therefore, all opinions against Azerbaijan in this matter are unimportant,” A. Hajizadeh said.

The official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan called on the Dutch side to abandon its unilateral position, which goes against peace in the region and creates tension in relations between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.
