Hundreds of people attended the event organized by the collective this Saturday ‘Os Ninguéns’ For remember the woman and her three dead children in the fire of an occupied building a year ago in the city of Vigo, a tragic event that they denounce has been forgotten by the administrations, which they accuse of not having respected their commitment to find a solution housing for survivors.

In front property on Alfonso X El Sabio street that in the early morning of October 11, 2023, a fire claimed the lives of a woman and her children aged 14 to 11, several Dozens of people gathered to pay tribute to the victims and ask administrations to get involved in housing policies for people at risk of exclusion.

During the demonstration, members of the “Os Ninguéns” forum They read a manifesto in which they called for a “day of collective mourning” in memory of the victims of the tragic event that occurred a year ago in the town of Olívica, make institutions reflect on their housing policies, especially for the most disadvantaged, according to indoca EuropaPress.

An event which, for ‘Os Ninguéns’, “could have been avoided if all poor residents of Vigo had access to affordable and comfortable housing” provided by “a public rental housing consortium between the municipality, the Xunta and the central government”.

The group emphasized that poverty “has the face of a woman”a “harsh reality” which directly points the finger at public institutions because “they lack a response to the evictions of single-parent households which often end in family breakdown”.

“The administrations should buy habitable housing, by claiming Sareb’s property in the city, and those empty of teachers and civil servants of penitentiary institutions,” underlines the platform. All should be distributed, according to ‘Os Ninguéns’, to people at risk of social vulnerability, to beneficiaries of inclusion income and to women in situations of prostitution “caused by great poverty”.

And that’s it ‘Os Ninguéns’ pointed out that the people who lived in Alfonso“, for lack of alternative”, consequence of a situation of “extreme poverty, victim of a predatory capitalist system”.

“And they had needs that were well known to public institutions,” they continue in the text read this Saturday in Vigo, which directly points to the responsibility of administrationswho suffer from the lack of memory of what happened a year ago and the absence of measures to help people in a similar situation throughout Galicia.

They report that the survivors of the fire “have not improved their situation” and that some of them “live overcrowded in apartments of six or seven people because they do not have a better offer.” “A year later, the promise that everyone would be relocated has been broken,” they added.

Celebrating Pilar Day, ‘Os Ninguéns’ denounce that there is “nothing to celebrate” this October 12, a date to “experience collective mourning” and “channel the rage of the institutional abandonment of the political will in improving the lives of these people.
