There is an outbreak of Marburg virus in Rwanda, which causes vomiting and severe bleeding. Doctors have serious concerns that it could cause a new pandemic.

So far 9 deaths have been reported and 18 more patients are in isolation. Most of the dead were medical workers in Kigali’s intensive care unit.
To prevent further spread of infection, the country’s authorities limited the number of participants in public events, including funerals, to 50 people. In the later stages of the disease, many patients experience severe symptoms, including internal bleeding that can appear from the nose, gums, and eyes, as well as in vomit and bowel movements.
The virus is known to have been first identified almost 60 years ago during outbreaks in Germany and Serbia. Now, in addition to Rwanda, the disease is spreading in Uganda, Ghana and Tanzania.
