A Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter jet shot down a Russian cruise missile with a machine gun

During the massive combined attack on August 26, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used not only modern types of air defense, but also ingenuity to repel the attacks. In particular, Transcarpathian fighters shot down the missile with a machine gun.

The chairman of the Transcarpathian OVA, Viktor Mikita, posted a video of the destruction of the occupiers’ cruise missile. The video then went viral on social media.

“The 650th separate anti-aircraft machine-gun battalion of the Transcarpathian Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a cruise missile on the border between our region and the Lviv region,” Mikita said, thanking the defenders for their professionalism and saving lives.

The video shows that the fighters took up a mobile position in a field in a mountainous area. Then, after aiming, they fired in the direction of the missile flight – the fighter hit the target for the first time. It is worth noting that missiles hit Transcarpathia, which covers the Carpathian mountain range, less frequently than other regions of Ukraine.

It is worth noting that this is the second such incident: in June, the “Doctor Mom” fighter shot down a cruiser with a machine gun in the kyiv region. This is very difficult to implement.

Later, former Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said that the missile was shot down not by a machine gunner, but by another missile, which hit the Russian X-101 missile.

Recall that since 6 am on August 26, Ukraine has been subjected to massive combined Russian attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure. Emergency power outages have now been introduced in Ukraine due to the situation that has arisen in the country’s energy sector during the current Russian attack.

Earlier, Kursor reported that residential buildings were damaged as a result of the massive Russian attack on Ukraine. In addition, five people were killed and wounded (the exact number is still being determined), including children. According to monitoring data, 40 missiles and 100 drones were shot down, but the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not yet commented on these figures.
