AEMET places the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Valencian Community on orange alert due to 90 litres of rain in one hour

Instability persists in the eastern half of the peninsula, with greater incidence in the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, where the orange warning (high risk) was activated this Wednesday due to storms and rain, which could occasionally accumulate between 60 and 90 liters per square meter in an hour.

According to data from the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the entire Balearic archipelago is orange due to rains that will accumulate 50 liters and even between 60 and 90 liters in one hour; AEMET also warns of very strong gusts of wind associated with strong storms (90 to 120 km/h), with the possibility of becoming hurricanes (greater than 120 km/h).

In Catalonia, only the province of Tarragona remains on orange alert due to accumulated rainfall of up to 40 liters in one hour, although the meteorology warns that up to 60 to 90 liters could accumulate. In the rest of the community, there is a yellow warning for rains that will add 25 liters in one hour and for storms accompanied by hail.

The Valencian Community has activated the orange level in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón due to rains that will accumulate 40 liters per square meter in one hour, specifically between 60 and 90 liters in one hour. Throughout the community there is also a yellow alert (risk) for storms with the possibility of hail. AEMET warns that the rainfall could become very heavy or persistent, with even risks of flooding.

In Aragon, La Rioja and the Region of Murcia and in the provinces of Burgos and Soria (Castilla y León), Albacete, Cuenca and Guadalajara (Castile-La Mancha), there is a yellow alert for storms and rain that will go out between 3 p.m. and 25 liters in one hour.

As for temperatures, temperatures will decrease, except in the northwest and southwest, where increases will predominate, although they should only exceed 35 degrees in the points of the Guadalquivir.
