Around twenty volunteers treated for carbon monoxide poisoning in a building in Chiva

The official emergency report details the following:

“At 2 p.m., the intervention of the CICU was requested to help several people poisoned by carbon monoxide in the garage of a building in Chiva. The CICU mobilized two SAMU units, two SVB units and a medical helicopter. In addition, primary care medical teams from the municipality were present.

“In total, 19 people were assisted, including a convulsing man who was transferred in stable condition to a BLS unit at Manises hospital. Seven other people were transferred to the same hospital in a SAMU unit, the two BLS units and a BLS unit of the EMU. The remaining 11 people are traveling on their own,” they said.

Recommendations for rescue and cleanup efforts

The Ministry of Health of the Generalitat Valenciana published a press release this morning containing a series of recommendations regarding the cleaning work.

Among them, he said, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, pressure washing machines and portable generators running on gasoline, diesel, propane or coal should be used at a distance of “at least 5 meters from any door, window or ventilation grille” and never inside the house.
