At least five soldiers from the UN mission in Lebanon injured and three civilians killed in Israeli bombardment

At least three civilians died this Thursday in a bombardment carried out by Israel against a vehicle which was traveling through one of the entrances to the city of Sidonsouth of Lebanonan attack which injured five members of the UN peacekeeping mission in the south of the country (FINAL).

“The Israeli enemy attacked a car as it passed through the Awali-Sidon checkpoint, causing the martyrdom of three citizens,” the Lebanese army denounced in a statement, adding that the bombing injured “three other soldiers at the checkpoint”.

For its part, UNIFIL indicated in another statement that “five peacekeepers were slightly injured and were treated by the Lebanese Red Cross on site”, while assuring that the peacekeepers will “remain in their positions” despite the escalation the intensity of Israeli bombings.

According to the note, the attacked convoy was carrying UNIFIL soldiers “recently arrived” in southern Lebanon and, during its passage through Sidon, “there were a drone attack nearby.”

“We remind all actors of their obligation to avoid actions that endanger peacekeepers or civilians. Disputes must be resolved at the negotiating table and not through violence,” UNIFIL recalled.

According to the Lebanese National Press Agency (ANNE), THE Israeli forces target car near checkpoint of the Lebanese army on an access road to Sidon where there were also vehicles from the United Nations peace mission.

Until now, the identity of the deceased is unknown, whose bodies “were transferred to the Sidon government hospital”, according to ANN.

At the end of October, Israel has expanded its bombing campaign around the city of Sidon, a town located about 40 kilometers south of Beirut to which residents of the southernmost regions of the country, devastated by air attacks, fled.

More than 3,000 people died and more than 1.2 million others have been forced to flee their homes since the violence began just over a year ago, although the vast majority of casualties have occurred since Israel began its massive bombing campaign against Lebanon on September 23.
