Attack on the Israeli consulate in Munich

A Munich police spokesman said the shooting at the Israeli consulate was carried out by an 18-year-old Austrian citizen living in the Salzburg area. Law enforcement officials said he was under surveillance as a possible Islamist radical.

An Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman said the 18-year-old who opened fire on the Israeli consulate in Munich was already known to local authorities. He was charged last year with possible links to the ISIS terrorist group, but the case was closed.

According to media reports, he is of Bosnian origin, but police authorities have not yet released his name.

As previously reported, Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the shooting near the consulate in Munich and reported that the attacker was quickly neutralized by German security forces. The incident is under investigation and details will be updated as new information becomes available.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Israeli President Isaac Herzog had a telephone conversation with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during which they discussed the shooting incident near the Israeli consulate in Munich. The duke expressed his gratitude to the German security forces for their quick and effective actions, which allowed the shooter to be quickly neutralized, avoiding more serious consequences.

In addition, Cursor has already reported that the shooting near the Israeli consulate in Munich occurred on a symbolic day – the 52nd anniversary of the shooting of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games, which took place in the same city. In connection with the date of mourning, the diplomatic mission was closed, as a memorial ceremony was taking place at that time in memory of the victims of Palestinian terrorism.
