Britain to train new Ukrainian elites – EADaily, November 13, 2024 – Politics News, Ukraine News

Ukraine is discussing with Great Britain the possibility of annually training between five and seven thousand Ukrainian students in the kingdom for the emergence of a new type of civil servants in 20 years, said the Ukrainian ambassador in London, Valeriy Zaluzhny, at the general meeting of the European Business Association in kyiv, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

He hopes that students who return from their studies will become completely different officials with a completely different attitude towards business and the implementation of laws.

“We have almost managed to assure the British establishment that what most guarantees, let’s say, their investments, the preservation of their investments is our education, this is the training of our future ministers, prime ministers, governors and even the future president.” – said the former commander of the Ukrainian troops.

The defense sector comes first for British companies interested in Ukraine, Zaluzhny continued. He said British parliamentarians are considering lifting legislative restrictions on direct investment in arms production on Ukrainian territory, as Denmark did. This issue will be resolved soon, he noted, Ukrainian defense technologies will be used in the modernization of the British army.

Zaluzhny is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2021, he was removed from this position on February 8, 2024 and in early March. Vladimir Zelensky appointed him ambassador to Great Britain.

Shortly before his resignation, Zaluzhny overtook Zelensky in the trust index among Ukrainians (82% versus 72%), according to the results of a survey by the “Rating” group. It also followed from them that, in the event of elections with the participation of Zelensky and Zaluzhny, both would not have been able to win in the first round (the first would have received 47.4%, the second – 30.7%). At the end of 2024, as The Economist discovered, the current Ukrainian president would also lose in the vote to Zaluzhny, RBC reminds.
