A Madrid court took the first step to investigate Íñigo Errejón after actress Elisa Mouliaá filed a complaint against him for sexual assault. The magistrate of Court 47 of Madrid wrote to the Congress of Deputies for the lower house to confirm that Errejón is no longer a deputy and that, therefore, he is not qualified before the Supreme Court and can be subject to an investigation by an ordinary court. The magistrate’s decision comes after the Judicial Police Brigade sent the testimony of the woman concerned to court number 47 in Plaza de Castilla in Madrid.

Congressional sources explain to elDiario.es that the chamber responded to the magistrate this Monday afternoon, informing him that Sumar’s former spokesperson is no longer a parliamentarian and that, therefore, he has lost his power . Once the response is received, the judge will declare himself competent and decide whether or not to open criminal proceedings against Íñigo Errejón for sexual offenses. The former politician actually left his file last Thursday.

The complaint says the two met at a party in September 2021, hours after meeting in person. Mouliaá claims that the politician grabbed her “strongly” by the arm to “forcefully” take her to a room where he locked the door “so that she could not escape”. Errejón, according to the complaint, began “kissing and touching” the woman until he “pushed her onto the bed and removed his virile member.” Everything happened, she added, without her consent and while she was “paralyzed”.

The testimony of this actress and presenter was known a few hours after Íñigo Errejón announced his resignation from all his public and political functions. In a statement, the former deputy and Sumar’s spokesperson in Congress did not directly refer to any accusation of sexist attitudes or sexual violence and claimed to have reached “the limit” of “the contradiction between character and the person.”

In recent days, various testimonies have emerged from women who accuse the former politician: “Everything revolved around his desire for domination,” explained to elDiario.es a woman who had a relationship with Errejón for a little over a year. year. De Sumar, the party of which he was the parliamentary spokesperson until a few days ago, recognized the failures of “detection and prevention” in his case and apologized, also announcing “protocols to prevent and treat situations of harassment and sexual assault.

Madrid denies having knowledge of the facts

This Monday, the minister and leader of Más Madrid, Mónica García, appeared alongside Manuela Bergerot and Rita Maestre to defend the actions of her political party. The party, he said, “has not received any complaints or specific testimony, present or past, against Errejón. She has also not been aware of any episodes similar to those reported in recent days.”

The party accuses former regional representative Loreto Arenillas of allegedly trying to cover up a complaint published more than a year ago on the social network of the Castellón nightclub. Rita Maestre said Arenillas had acted “behind the back of the organization, the executive and the party,” which Arenillas denied a few minutes later.

The possible legal action against Errejón following Elisa Mouliaá’s complaint is still awaiting several procedures before the formal opening of criminal proceedings: for the judge to declare himself competent and then decide that there is sufficient evidence to open a folder. If you do, one of your first actions will be to ask the victim to confirm their accusations.
