European Parliament approves new Commission with Teresa Ribera as vice-president

The European Parliament approved this Wednesday the European Commission (EC) of the German Ursula von der Leyen, with former Spanish minister Teresa Ribera as vice-president, after strong divisions within the European Chamber promoted by the Spanish People’s Party.

The organization gave the green light to Ursula von der Leyen’s European Commission by 370 votes in favor, 282 against and 36 abstentions, thus paving the way for the entire team, which includes Spain’s Teresa Ribera, to start to work on December 1st.

In the absence of publication of the roll call vote, the Spanish PP and Vox They argued that they would vote against the entire Commission for its rejection of Ribera, while the deputies of Sumar, Podemos, BNG, EH Bildu, ERC, Compromís declared that they rejected the vice-presidency of the ultra-conservative Raffaele Fitto because they saw it as a turn to the far right.
