Treball Promotion continues to strengthen ties with Porto. Following the recent visit of a delegation of Portuguese businesses to Barcelona, the Catalan employers’ union traveled to the Portuguese capital to meet its mayor, Rui de Carvalho de Araújo Moreiraas well as with the Portuguese Business Association (AEP) and the SEDES foundation.
During the meeting, Sánchez Llibre launched the idea of promoting an event in Barcelona inviting representatives of the four major metropolitan regions of the Iberian Peninsula (Lisbon, Porto, Madrid and Barcelona) to solve common problems such as tourism.
For his part, Rui Moreira highlighted the importance of sharing an “economic culture” and common challenges between the north of Portugal and Catalonia. “Cities like Barcelona and Porto, but also others, are now the ones that can face the great challenges that societies face,” he said. In this sense, the leader of Promotion stated that “this reinforces the industrial air bridge between Barcelona and Porto“.
Proof of this complicity, the news according to which Porto will celebrate the Saint Jordi’s Day in 2025as a sign of twinning with Catalonia. The celebration will take place in August and will have a literary and festive component. Cultural companies from Catalonia and the rest of Spain will be invited to the event.
For Sánchez Llibre, these agreements prove “the synchronicity that exists in the 41st parallel that connects Barcelona and Porto”, as he said during the meeting with the president of the AEP, Luis Ribeiro. Such Promotion and the AEP have renewed an agreement dating back to 1990 to create synergies in areas such as industry and innovation.
