I discovered the eSIM format in 2019, when I switched to a digital card on my iPhone as a line of work. The personal line remained physical until this year, at that moment, I also decided to do without it and switch to eSIM format. I want to tell you what my experience was in simplifying everything on one phone.
Two better than one on my iPhone
Having two numbers on one device allows me better organize my daily life. As I mentioned, one line is for work only and the other is personal. I generally don’t worry about work on weekends, which allows me to be calmer.
The dual SIM card format, in this electronic case, allows you don’t need to carry two devices. While there are already times when I’m very busy with just one phone, I don’t want to imagine what it would be like to have to manage two.
There is, however, one aspect that is close to my heart: always ensuring the best coverage. My personal line belongs to one operator and my professional line belongs to another. This way I can immediately change data plans from one line to another if the speed is not as expected. This particularly happens to me during train journeys, when I connect the iPhone to the computer to continue working. I have already located the points where mobile coverage is better depending on the line.
Better yet, this change happens very quickly; even the iPhone itself can automatically manage mobile data use subject to availability.
Each line is assigned a name, which allows me identify them quickly. When I receive a call, the device tells me whether it is from the home line or the work line.
You can even Predetermine which line you will use to call certain contacts. Those who are part of the work scope are automatically assigned to the work line. This allows me to maintain my privacy at all times, since I don’t need to give out my personal number for professional reasons.
But where I really see the advantage of using lines from different operators is in the ability to always have a connection, not only to mobile data, but also to a phone signal. On my walks in the mountains, this is key. In the event of an emergency, if an operator has signaling difficulties in an area, have two lines on the same device significantly increases the chances of success.
Obviously not everyone needs two lines, but for those who navigate between these two areas, Investing in a device that can manage them only has advantages. And I’m not just talking about the iPhone, which in the United States is now only sold in eSIM format. There are many ways to interact with your phone lines and mobile data plans, and they all offer flexibility and convenience.
