THE Christmas is about to start in Malaga. From this Friday until January 6, the city will be filled with activities such as light and music shows or video mapping for all audiences.
The designated day for switching on Christmas lights is Friday November 29 2024, which will officially mark the start of the Christmas period. More than 2.7 million LED lights They will be lit to officially launch the season of Christmas carols and mantecados.
The lighting will extend up to January 6, 2025 and, although there are many streets that will have thousands of lights, there will be very special lighting in:
THE Larios Street: The epicenter of the magic of Christmas in Malaga will be, like every year, this emblematic route, which will maintain its traditional theme of the Heavenly Angels which has won over both locals and tourists in previous editions.
THE Main shopping center: The Forest of Lights will return this year, where there will be a large light corridor along the Alameda.
THE Rue Saint-Jean: This route is new with a unique decorationlike in recent years, which divides the street into three differentiated light spaces.
Flea markets
flea market Walk in the park: In the 90 stands of Paseo del Parque, you will find many surprises to have a good time with your family. Nativity scenes, figurines of your favorite characters, toys… And count on a stop to treat yourself a little with donuts or waffles which will seduce you with their aroma.
flea market Pier 1: An elf village and an igloo with polar bears at the Pier 1 Market Get ready for the little ones in the family to go crazy with the amount of facilities and activities they have prepared this year. Also take advantage of its variety of craft, fashion and decoration stands to bring back a souvenir of your visit to Malaga at Christmas.
flea market The Corte Inglés: From Thursday November 28 to January 5, a wide choice of stands will be set up which will offer unique and special products for these holidays, from the nativity scene, lights, traditional Christmas decorations to leisure and cultural items, including Sweet Shop and the irresistible Christmas. + Gourmet gifts.
Lantern Festival
This year, as a novelty, the Lantern Festival will take place at Parque del Oeste, a Chinese tradition which will feature 600 handmade lanterns, workshops and a greeting fresco. It will be available from November 29, 2024 to February 15, 2025, being a perfect option to enjoy with the whole family. Illuminated botanical garden
‘Stela, the journey of the Eastern Star’ that’s what they called this spectacular light scene. For the third year in a row, the Malaga Botanical Garden dresses up for Christmas and transports all visitors to a world of fantasy and Christmas illusion. THE Three wise men They will be responsible for accompanying visitors to follow the Eastern Star through a route of just over 2 km.
Along the way you will see the impressive plant collectiontrees and flowers of the Garden. Alongside them, visitors will encounter more than 20 light installations that will transport them, almost by magic, to places like Bethlehem or Persia.

Video mapping of Malaga Cathedral
The Cathedral’s penguin tower will be the star of this Christmas spectacle. This is a show lasting 8 to 10 minutes in which the building comes to life with a play of moving lights that project images with Christmas motifs and nods to our local culture, in 2 and 3 dimensions.
Although the times have not yet been confirmed, in previous years it was one of the most visited events due to its spectacular nature.
Nurseries
In addition to traditional nativity scenes, this year there will be a competition which invites neighbors and local businesses to get creative by making nativity scenes, Christmas and Christmas decorations in their windows. In this edition, the event includes Christmas modalities made by students, nativity scenes made by associations and individuals, and windows decorated by local businesses.
To further motivate participation, the competition offers a total of 4,600 euros price. This amount is distributed between the different modalities, including economic incentives of up to 600 euros for the first places, in addition to gift boxes for Christmas categories. Cash prizes are subject to applicable tax regulations, ensuring that each participant complies with their tax obligations.
