Due to the increase in violence in the Berlin subway, women-only carriages should be introduced. This was stated by Antje Capek, member of the Berlin Chamber of Deputies for the Green Party.
According to her, in the last 10 years the number of sexual crimes on public transport in Berlin has multiplied by 3.6. Last year alone, 391 incidents of this type were recorded in the Berlin subway, of which 145 in the subway and 132 in the S-Bahn.
“Kapek proposes clearly marked areas at stations with emergency call buttons and video surveillance, as well as carriages that can only be used by women, either immediately behind the driver or at the end of the train,” — writes the telegram channel “Bild in Russian”*.
The deputy cited Japan as an example, where these wagons are distributed from early in the morning until 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Outside the rules, only people in wheelchairs and children under 12 years old are allowed.
