India set to open consulate of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Mumbai

The Indian government is considering the possibility of officially appointing a diplomatic representative of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (AIE, as the Taliban call the country)*) to the consulate in Mumbai.

According to Indian media, a representative who currently works at the Mumbai consulate has already been selected. This Ikramuddin Kamilwho previously studied in India. However, he still does not have a diplomatic passport.

If the Taliban’s request* is adopted, this will be a significant step towards establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. No country has yet officially recognized the IEA government, but several countries in the region have accepted diplomats from Kabul. Meanwhile, a small “technical” team of Indian officials has been working in Kabul for several months.
