“Resignation is not an option”

The Generalitat continues without self-criticism for the disastrous management before and after DANA. Susana Camarero, vice-president of the Valencian Generalitat, said during a press conference to explain the actions of the Generalitat in the areas affected by DANA – which caused more than 200 deaths – that since From the first day, aid is granted to the municipalities most affected by the cold snap and that, for the moment, there will be no resignations. All this comes after a historic demonstration with almost 130,000 people in which Valencians demanded the resignation of Mazón and, by extension, that of his team.

“We are carrying out all kinds of actions for recovery. A Council present since day one, I insist from day one, and from the first moment by working with mayors of the people, taking into account each of their difficulties,” said Susa Camarero.

On the other hand, he stressed that the Generalitat focuses on helping people provide “water, food and supplies”insisting that from day one they are reaching out to the Valencians when in reality it took them five days to implement an aid plan. He also emphasized that from day one they are “working to open schools with financial assistance.”

In his speech, Camarero highlighted the decisions that were taken by the Generalitat, reiterating at all times that these measures were implemented from the first moment, both at the health level and at the infrastructure level. Despite this, the vice-president of Mazón wanted to emphasize that the most important thing at this moment is that help is “organized” and that they are done via the platform they have activated to coordinate volunteering.

On the other hand, the vice-president of Mazón ruled out the possibility of resignations because the only objective of the Generalitat is to work in the affected areas for their recovery and reconstruction. It is for this reason that the vice-president felt that we could not “abandon” the victims of the tragedy.

“Under these conditions, we cannot abandon the victims. This government is not going to abandon the victims, but it will stand alongside the victims, as it has done since day one. This is not an option“, emphasized the vice president. It should be noted that the ‘popular’, when asked about possible dismissals or the incorporation of new advisors, referred to the fact that Mazón will appear next Thursday and that, therefore, “the decision is his”.

Although the management of the Generalitat has been criticized by more than 130,000 Valencians, those in Mazón place the emphasis on the Executive. Camarera took advantage of his speech on Sunday to attack the Sánchez government because of the economic aid allocated to deal with the disaster. “The recovery plan that we demanded He gives aid of 30 million and 10 from the ICO to be returned. “It’s insufficient”he declared.

Not only that, but he declared that the government cannot provide “aid in dribs and drabs” and that the The executive cannot “save even one euro”: “We need the Spanish government to understand the dimension of the tragedy and provide an appropriate response, we cannot wait another day for help.”

Although the criticism is not directed only against the Executive, Camarero threw several darts at Teresa Ribera after the calls and messages she sent on DANA day to the president of the Generalitat: “Minister Ribera manipulated the informationsaying he was trying to locate the president and was in Brussels instead of worrying. “He only sends a message to the president at 8:20 p.m.”

Finally, Camarero understood the pain of the entire Valencian population who participated in Saturday’s demonstration to demand the resignation of Sánchez and condemned the acts of violence that followed the end of the demonstration: “It hurts me personally and in as long as there has been a government violent groups who, at the end of the demonstration, provoked riots and acts of vandalism.
