Chinese citizens became the first country to purchase one million NEV (New Energy Vehicles) vehicles, i.e. electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

It should be noted that this happened against the backdrop of a general market decline, and, as a result, the share of NEVs in sales broke another record.
In total, 1.03 million electric and hybrid cars were purchased in China in August, accounting for 53.5% of all sales. For the first time, the NEV share exceeded 50% just a month ago, at the end of July. The total volume of the passenger car market in China was 1.92 million vehicles, down 1.1% from the previous year. Although the pace of decline has slowed slightly compared to July, the market has still declined for the fifth consecutive month.
According to the report, the growing popularity of NEVs in China is being spurred by a range of government subsidies, including those for those switching from traditional cars to electric and hybrid cars. They are entitled to a subsidy of 20,000 yuan (about 4,800 manats) when buying an NEV or 10,000 yuan (about 2,400 manats) if they buy a smaller car with an internal combustion engine. Local analysts said 80% of subsidy recipients switched to an electric car or a hybrid model.
According to Carscoops, global demand for battery-powered cars also increased in August compared to the beginning of the year. The overall increase was 20% and 9% in each US state, but the trend of increasing sales here may change after the November elections. At the same time, the popularity of electric cars in Europe began to fall by 4% for the first time.
