The Government will assume management of the Son Gibert school, in Palma.

The Ministry of Education and Universities will assume management of the new school of Son Gibertwhich will be added to the public network. This is what the minister of the sector announced this Monday, Antoni Vera, during the ceremony of laying the first stone of the first cycle of the preschool education center in this district of Palma.

The work of this undergraduate early childhood education center has a scope budget 2.7 million euros, of which the Department of Education and Universities is contributing €1.15 million.

The future nursery school will have three units divided between two classrooms with 14 places for CP (babies aged 0); two more for the second year of kindergarten, with 24 places (children aged 1 and 2), and three classrooms for the third year (2-3 years), with 54 places. There will also be a support classroom. In total this school will have a capacity of 92 places.

Also present at the event were the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martinez; the Director General of Early Childhood, Attention to diversity and educational improvement, Neus Rieraand the councilor for education of the town hall of Palma, The Rock of Lourdes.

Martínez recalled that the construction of the Son Gibert school had been planned since 2019 and that after repeated announcements of its delay, the current government team worked to make it a reality “by responding to years of multiple requests from the educational community and neighbors.

This project represents, in the words of the mayor of Palma, “a big step to increase the educational offer in Palma, by meeting the educational needs of the neighborhoods”.

The first mayor advanced during the law that, during these 15 months of legislature, the construction of the Son Dameto children’s center, between the streets of Seville and Castilla La Mancha, was also promoted, with 92 additional places, which represents a total of 184 more places for the network of municipal centers.

“We have from the start a clear commitment to improve the network of municipal schools so that they are at the level that the families and citizens of Palma deserve,” he added.

The mayor recalled, on the other hand, the 100 percent bonus for education from 0 to 3 years in the 29 schools of Palma, a fact for which he thanked the government, which offers a bonus of four hours, “for his willingness to look towards Palma and the needs of its citizens.
