This Tuesday the first (and probably the only) debate between vice-presidential candidates of the United States: the current governor of Minnesota, the Democrat Tim Walz and Republican senator from Ohio J.D. Vance. Both will meet a little more than a month before presidential election day on November 5.
The main goal of both will be to gain more support for the elections, to defend their bosses – Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and former Republican President Donald Trump -, to present themselves to Americans as possible replacements for the White House and avoid blows of his adversaries without being denounced.
According to local press, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg dragged Walz, 60, for the big night. While Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer helped Vance, 40, prepare for the face-off.

The debate will be broadcast at 3 a.m. in Spain (9 p.m. in the eastern United States) on different channels, such as CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+. Initially, each candidate’s microphone will be on for the 90 minutes of the event, but the network can turn off microphones “if necessary.”

The rules also state that each candidate will have one minute to rebut further and that “candidates may have one additional minute each to continue a discussion,” but only if approved by the moderators. Gain lost ground
A priori, Vance is the one who has more pressureas he will be tasked with regaining lost ground after Trump’s weak performance against Harris in the debate earlier this month. Vance is a former Marine who was a military journalist, graduated from Yale Law School, worked in venture capital, and rose to fame with his memoir: Mountain elegywhich were bestsellers and were eventually made into a film starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close.
Walz, less well known than Vance, worked as a high school teacher and football coach, and served in the National Guard before entering politics.
Both Vance and Walz boast of knowing the deepest land well, alluding to their origins in the rust belt (rust belt), one of the most depressed territories of the country due to deindustrialization, which has generated great resentment against the political class and institutions.
