Two people die after their car was hit by an Alvia at Palencia level crossing

Two people of Portuguese nationality died this Tuesday when the vehicle in which they were traveling was hit by a train in Husillos, Palencia, as reported by the 112 emergency service of Castilla y León. A search is underway for other presumed deceased people who may have been ejected from the vehicle.

The ADIF Safety Center informed the room of the 1-1-2 emergency center of Castilla y León of the collision between an Alvia train and a car at the Husillos level crossing (Palencia). According to what they indicate in the call, they do not know the condition and number of occupants of the vehicle and the train was traveling on the Madrid-Santander line and carried 92 passengers, some of whom may have suffered bruises following the ‘impact. ADIF Renfe later confirmed that there were no injured passengers.

The event, according to sources from the Government Sub-delegation in Palencia, occurred at 09:56 hours at Km. 304’180, of the railway line, at the junction with the Monzón-Husillos road. The incident was recorded during a temporary passage through the factories, towards Cantabria.

The 1-1-2 operations room notifies the incident to the Emergency Coordination Center, the Civil Guard (COS) of Palencia, the Fire Brigade of the Provincial Deputation of Palencia and the Health Emergencies – Sacyl, who send a unit mobile intensive care unit and two basic survival ambulances.

Rail traffic between Monzón de Campos and Palencia remains interrupted, although alternative bus services are already established between Palencia and Osorno to cover the affected section.
