The SBU detained a 72-year-old mechanical scientist from Kharkov, who was developing drawings for Russia to improve kamikaze drones of the Geran-2 type. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
It should be noted that the scientist, in particular, worked on the modernization of engines and ejection installations.
“According to the investigation, the accused remotely transferred technological advances to his acquaintance, the general director of one of the Russian machine-building plants that produces units for drones. Since 2023, this company has been closely cooperating with a Russian company that produces attack drones of the “Shahed” type, which… are labeled with the name “Geranium-2”. To communicate… the Kharkov resident used email and a popular messenger. At the same time, he disguised cooperation… under the pretext of preparing scientific work in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles.” — says the department’s telegram channel.
It should be noted that in the design work the scientist involved his former student, who at the beginning of the Northern Military District left the Kharkov region for Russia and got a job at the Moscow Technological University, where he develops drones for the Russian Armed Forces. . .
The brave scientist was detained, as the report says, at his place of residence in the regional center. During the searches, they confiscated his computer, mobile phone and USB flash drives “with evidence.” The detainee is suspected of “helping the aggressor State.” He is now detained and faces 12 years in prison with confiscation of assets.
As for its student, the SBU plans to inform the former student of Kharkov University of the suspicions in absentia.
