Ten free activities not to be missed at the 2024 Flora Festival in Cordoba

The seventh edition of the Cordoba International Flower Festival, Flora 2024, arrives loaded with activities, most of them free. In total, they will be a hundred between visits, conferences, shows and exhibitions, among others.

These proposals “flower” around the central axis of the event, which is the facilities of the five artists participating in this year’s competition, who are Carolin Ruggaber (Germany), Eugenio Ampudia (Spain), Coyote Flowers (Canada), This Humid House (Singapore) and Emily Thompson (United States).

Here are the ten most notable activities of the event that makes Córdoba the world capital of botany and contemporary floral art:

Guided tours of the facilities

Like every year, the festival will offer free and up to full capacity (you will need to book the activity) guided tours of the festival installations, both during their assembly – a unique opportunity to enter into the process of creating an artistic work – and once completed.

  • During assembly: October 15, 16 and 17. Two shifts: at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Departures from Palacio de la Merced.

  • During the exhibition: from October 19 to 24. Flower arrangement workshop

Carolin Ruggaber, one of the artists who will exhibit her installation at Flora 2024will be responsible for giving this workshop, which will take place on October 14, at 7:00 p.m., at the Balcón de Córdoba Hotel (Encarnación, 8), for which you must register at www.festivalflora.com

Inspired by the patios of Cordoba, the designer will teach participants how to make small sculptural arrangements with flowers, fruits and vegetablesthat the public can take home to decorate their terrace.

Power workshop

Ruggaber will not be the only one to actively participate in the festival: on October 15, the public will learn with the artists This Wet House and Emily Thompson create animal feeders with botanical materials, which will be part of their installations. It will be from 7:00 p.m., at the Palacio de la Merced (Plaza de Colón, 15). You must also reserve a place on the Flora 2024 website.

Screening of “Destino”, by Dalí and Walt Disney

On October 16, at 8:30 p.m., the short film “Destino” will be screened at the Viana Palace, a film that Walt Disney commissioned Salvador Dalí in 1945. Although work began that year, the project was halted and was not completed until 2003, well after the deaths of both artists.

In addition, a meeting is also planned with Lauren Sellen (Coyote Flowers), who will share his inspiration and working techniques with the public.

Lectures on horticulture and gardening from the 8th to the 18th century

Among the different activities, the “Leaves” conference series on “Horticulture and gardening in Andalusia from the 8th to the 18th century”, organized by the University of Córdoba and in which personalities such as Enriqueta Martín-Consuegra, Francisco M. Espejo Jiménez, Antonio J. Díaz and Eduardo Barba will participate .

  • October 17: Enriqueta Martín Consuegrawith the presentation “On the trail of the past: the flora of Andalusian gardens”. At 7:30 p.m., in the Pedro López de Alba Building (UCO), Alfonso XIII Street, 13.

  • October 23: Antonio J. Díaz“Paper flowers: species and horticulture in Golden Age Córdoba”. At 8:30 p.m., in the Pedro López de Alba building (Alfonso XIII, 13).

Sound installation in Orive

Sound artist Miguel Álvarez-Fernández offers the sound experience “Raíces del Fonocene” in the Jardin d’Orive, an installation in which active listening is proposed to question language beyond the Anthropocene.

Flore organized guided tours for the 19th, at 6:30 p.m.; and on the 20th, at 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Dance, singing and electronics at La Magdalena

On October 19, Magdalena Church will host a dance, song and electronic show from Carmen Muñoz, Juan Pérez “Aure” and Rocío Lunawith the collaboration of Leandro Cano.

The montage questions the links established in nature and on stage. This will start to 9:00 p.m. and entry is free until capacity is reached.

Concert under the olive tree

Casa Arabe and Flora will present the October 25 the musical project Sous l’olivier, composed of artists from Morocco, Greece, Spain and Switzerland.

The concert can be seen in the Patio de los Naranjos of the Mosque-Cathedral, from 7:00 p.m..

II Flower Candle

This multi-activity will take place in the Youth House (Campo Madre de Dios, 13), October 25. A master class will be given by Juan Zamora (10:30 a.m.); There will also be an Art Market (from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.); and two musical shows: one by Los Wilos (4:30 p.m.) and a concert by Dulzaro (8:30 p.m.).

Representation in San Basilio, 44

The patio of San Basilio, 44, headquarters of the Association of Friends of Patios, joins the free activities of Flora 2024 with ‘When the plants sing: terraces that sing», a “performance” of music and light on the “noise” of the plants. It benefits from the collaboration of Loyola University.
